About

Sergio Arantes

I write ZUMKAI, a technical blog about what happens when you take a technique out of the example and put it into a client project.

What I do

I work at Brasal, in Brasilia, Brazil, as a Development and Digital Marketing Specialist. I have been building and designing websites for 20 years, these days with a focus on motion design and Next.js.

Three subjects take up most of my time:

Motion design for the web. I reverse-engineer premium sites: I take the piece that impresses, work out how it was built, and document it pattern by pattern. So far I have taken apart the sites of Plantica, ANAI, Studio Modular, Beetogreen and InterGest Canada.

Next.js in production. Infrastructure, deploys, scroll, performance. The guide to motion and scroll and the deploy documentation for GitHub and Hostinger came out of a real project, not a tutorial.

AI agents in the workflow. I keep three catalogs curated and current: the Skills Hub, with 44 skills reviewed and 294 commands documented; the Claude Code command reference; and the AI tools directory. These three are in Portuguese for now.

How I write

Three rules that hold for every post here:

  1. Primary source, always dated. Every version, price, license or browser behavior carries the date it was checked. When a number does not hold up at the source, it leaves the text. It does not turn into “studies suggest”.
  2. What failed stays in. The trap, the abandoned path, the mistake that cost time. It is the part tutorials cut, and the part that saves your day.
  3. Explicit judgment. I fail tools, I drop approaches, I say what is not worth it. In the portfolio yearbook I tested 31 URLs and failed 4, with the reason for each one.

I do not publish technology news or getting-started tutorials. If a subject is already well covered in Portuguese, I do not write about it. That gap is why this blog exists.

Documented work

The redesign of Instituto +Brasal is on the blog with the full process and the stacks with references.
